So the
Reading and
Leeds line ups have been announced with tickets now officially on sale. If youre one of those people who keenly follows the festivals and waits for that big announcement come ticket day then you already know the line up and manically bashed your bank details into an online ticket site whilst screaming take all my money. Then again you might be one of those who saw it, grumbled about how it isnt as good as insert preferred year here and then went about your business. If you arent either of those people, and arent aware of the finally announced line up (though therell be plenty more announcements to come), then here, let me tell you and take credit for giving you the news unless your Facebook wasnt awash with people slagging it off or doing the type equivalent of squealing with glee, like mine was. Two headliners were already prior announced in the shape of
Biffy Clyro and
Eminem and todays announcement saw the final headliner being confirmed as
Green Day.
Eminem isnt going to be a big audience pull for the festival with him rarely reaching these shores, and despite a decline in quality in recent years still having an untouchable back catalogue as far as his earlier output is concerned.
Biffy Clyro are always a solid festival staple, and with their double album out this headline slot will only go on to cement their position in the big league of modern bands.
Green Day is an unusual, and disappointing third announcement in all honesty, but they still have quite the following, an extensive back catalogue to work from and their surprise slot last year went down a storm. The rest of the line up is pretty diverse collection of acts with some big draws and impressive additions even lower down the stages, and days. With
Reading and
Leeds having had a bit of a struggle with selling out, like it once used to at a frenzied pace, in recent years this more diverse line up of bands and a more restrained increase in ticket price than is usually known should go some way to get it more solidly back on track as last years line up had begun to do so. Headliners aside theres the
previously mentioned grand return of
Nine Inch Nails, the
previously reviewed and currently at an all time high
Deftones, the always amazing
Brand New, the comebacks of
System of a Down and
Fall Out Boy, the steadily rising
alt-J, international dance maestro
Skrillex and just choice acts such as
City & Colour,
Frank Turner,
Foals,
White Lies,
Magnetic Man,
Knife Party,
A$AP Rocky and the legend that is
Johnny Marr. See below for the full line up as it currently stands. More announcements to come.
