13. Not The One

"Not The One" would perhaps be a more fitting title if the band had decided to cut this number from the record. It's pleasant, dream like and certainly casts the mind back to some of the more floaty tracks on By The Way... , but, it's not a track that does any favours for the album's momentum.

This is the kind of number you want somewhere in the middle, giving you a rest bite from Chad Smith's gut busting drum lines, and Flea's incessant bass slapping. Instead, it serves to slow things down before they've even begun to get going.
