13. "My Goodbyes" - Every Six Seconds
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCbHfjrv-k0 Something that I haven't mentioned until now is the strong undertone that Every Six Seconds complies to. Some may have noticed that some of the songs on the album carry a weight behind them that only bad parenthoods and childhoods could manage. Some conduct a very mature and understated attitude towards one's parents, preferably Scott's own life with his parents and maybe even some of the bandmates. "My Goodbyes", the final song on the Every Six Seconds album, finishes things up with a sharp pain to the heart, singing about the death of a father and passing on physical and mental troubles to his son/daughter, allowing them to carry on life without their father next to them. It's definitely a cumbersome and emotional topic to sing and write about, and Saliva pulls it off with such defined and precise pathos.
12. "Closer" - In It To Win It
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6c3YHXnmGQ The #12 position goes to a song that I predict will easily be questioned by some that read this article. Some may have never even heard of it, as it is an iTunes exclusive track for In It To Win It. Let me explain: "Closer" is a Saliva song through and through. Its extreme highs are granted only by the band's talent at songwriting and performance, of which both are absolutely nailed. Bobby Amaru sings his heart out to the max, and the emphasized sound from the band stays true to their new and improved foundation for 2013. But it's not just in the performance that makes "Closer" such as great song. What holds "Closer" close to the upper echelons of Saliva songs is the lyrical nature and compatibility with one's life at the time. Lyrically, the song is about relationship problems (once again), and deals with the profound connections we share in our relationships with loved ones. If we love them enough and yet they drive us to leave, it only brings us closer to one goal: we leave, or stay to endure more pain and heartbreak. More importantly, it's one of Saliva's few songs that I can replay over and over again and not miss a single beat. If a song can affect the listener on such a scale, then it earns a close top spot on this list.
11. "Badass" - Under Your Skin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPar2KARcOk Marking Under Your Skin's final appearance on this countdown list at #11, "Badass" is just how it sounds: pretty badass. Any fan of Saliva who is reading this knows the band to convey their own inclination towards certain issues, even criticism. Some may even believe their constant change in sound over the years decreased their value amongst the ranks, labeling them as wash-ups and strangers to a new land of musical ambition. So I believe that with Under Your Skin, or at least where the first song applies, the band aimed to create and produce a song that pointed out the issue, and that they are still the badasses they once were back in the early days. "Badass", the seconds single off of Under Your Skin, details the band, or an individual by lyrical terms, as one who doesn't take crap from anybody, no matter who they are. Simply stating that "this is the wild wild west, and I'm fast as fast" helps clear things just a hair: no matter their age or sound, Saliva is still one badass collection of talented men who aren't looking to slow down anytime soon (except for Josey Scott). Now, on to the final 10.....
