Slipknot: 10 Hidden Song Details You Totally Missed

9. Pulse Of The Maggots - The Much Sampled Song

Slipknot’s Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) contained a love letter to their fans in the form of Pulse of the Maggots, which samples drum loops and fills from The Winstons’ 1969 song, Amen Brother. The same song would also play a part the iconic synth drumming intro on Eyeless.

The largely unremarkable track was initially released as a throwaway B-side, but is now actually regarded as the most sampled song of all time, featuring on songs from artists as diverse as N.W.A., Oasis, and Skrillex. The site WhoSampled lists a staggering 5,006 different tracks that use some part of the song.

Unfortunately for The Winstons themselves, this influence across so many genres of music never translated into any royalties or monetary gain. Drummer Gregory Coleman, whose ahead of his time playing is the most commonly utilised part of the song, would sadly die destitute and living on the streets in 2006.
