Slipknot: 10 Hidden Song Details You Totally Missed

7. Some Feel - The RPG Connection

A concept album can raise great music into something altogether more absorbing and artistic. Mastodon’s take on Moby Dick, in the form of 2004’s Leviathan elevated them into the heavy metal A-list, whereas Coheed & Cambria were made a much more interesting prospect by linking their musical works to their own graphic novels, etc.

The source material used for Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. was somewhat more obscure.

Original singer Anders Colsefni and Clown had bonded over a mutual fascination with the role playing game Werewolf: The Apocalypse. The whole album was replete with references to the game (including the title itself), but the track Some Feel is probably the best example. With some truly baffling lyrics including “I can’t escape what Gaia’s left for me”, and others written from the perspective of an undead creature, these would have made sense to fans of the RPG.

The series maintains a dedicated fan base to this day, with the awkwardly named Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood releasing on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in February 2021.
