Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind: Every Song Ranked From Worst To Best

5. Unsainted

We Are Not Your Kind's first taste of true experimentation comes on its first proper track, as a haunting choir guide us through the melody accompanying "Unsainted's" refrain of "oh, I'll never kill myself to save my soul/I was gone but how was I to know?" for the first time. It's a stirring moment and an integral part of a perfectly-calibrated build towards a pummelling verse rhythm that is amongst the heaviest things on the whole record.

This is the kind of anthem Slipknot revel in. It was custom-built to shred thousands of vocal chords in stadiums around the world, and it absolutely delivers in that regard. All build, bombast, and power, "Unsainted" is a well-structured future classic sure to dominate rock radio all year long, and it comprises nothing in the heaviness stakes, either.

The tension built between the second and last choruses is immense, as Taylor roars "you've killed the saint in me!" before the final burst of life. "Unsainted" is one of the best metal singles of the year. It shreds.
