Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind: Every Song Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Not Long For This World

We Are Not Your Kind's most progressive song comes near the album's end. "Not Long For This World" is as beautiful as it is punishing, and while not as immediate as the album's more slamming material, it's a track that, like "My Pain," rewards multiple listens. Only then do all of its fruits reveal themselves.

This penultimate track begins with quiet ambience and Alessandro Venturella's soft, rumbling bass. An almost grungey guitar line kicks in a few bars before Taylor's reverb-drenched vocals. There's a malfunctioning electronic whir in the background as "Not Long for This World" heads for the chorus, where the full band unleash a barrage of winding riffs and punishing rhythms, only to return to a calmer state of mind as soon as it's done.

Sweet release and euphoria accompany the gliding synth line that joins Thompson and Root after the second chorus. Then comes the song's angriest, heaviest portion and a near-perfect outro of screeching, harrowing noise that just dies.

It sounds like the end and would be the perfect spot to cut We Are Not Your Kind off if not for what comes next...
