The Beatles: 13 Tracks To Forget
5. Your Mother Should Know
Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour were signs that The Beatles were more interested in experimenting in the recording studio as opposed to on tour. The songs on the latter reflect that.
That is, except for Your Mother Should Know. This McCartney effort is, admittedly, very catchy. He even performed it live on one of his more recent world tours.
The problem is that when put up against tunes like I Am The Walrus and The Fool On The Hill, its weaknesses are exposed. It's just too simple in its piano-based structure and the repetitive lyrics make the song seem pointless.
It's just another case where McCartney had a song with great potential, but fell short. Then again, with the band's experimental tendencies in 1967, perhaps he was going for just that.
