The Beatles: 13 Tracks To Forget
6. Within You Without You
Here we have another case where Harrison just dropped the ball. While Within You Without You is a great track when considering that it was the result of Harrison diving head first into mastering the sitar, it just doesn't fit with the rest of Sgt. Pepper's concept.
Where the rest of the album has a running theme of classical and jazz incorporation, Within You Without You is just out of place. Its trippy sound and deep and philosophical lyrics just don't mesh with tracks like Fixing A Hole or even Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.
Rather than this track, the band should have gone with the original choice Harrison made for his contribution, Only A Northern Song. That would later be featured on the Yellow Submarine soundtrack, but would have been just as well-suited for the band's most iconic record.
