The song featured both Elton John and Neil Tennant and found Flowers in a now trademark storytelling mood. The song considers the role that Joseph had to play in the traditional nativity tale, and tries to see the struggles that the man would have had to face at that time. Flowers and John alternate the vocals almost equally, asking questions of the humble man in the wake of his wife's unexpected, immaculate pregnancy.
