5. A Musical Legend Was Lost With The Passing Of Lou Reed
This wasn't such a 'top' moment, per se, but it certainly demanded a lot of our attention, when Velvet Underground frontman passed away from liver disease, despite a seemingly successful liver transplant earlier in the year. While he may have faded into obscurity in his later years, Reed is often cited as being responsible for the formation of the Velvet Underground, which is recognised today as one of the most influential bands of its time. Known for melding folk lyrics with his trademark deadpan, dark vocals, Reed had a solo career that spanned several decades, and boasts an impressive discography of over twenty albums since he left the Velvet Underground, although was never met the critical, commercial acclaim his earlier work brought. Regardless, Reed was still seen as a pioneer of rock for his work with the Velvet Underground, which is responsible for influencing pretty much anyone who has held a guitar in the last four decades. Many critics site that the impact he made with the group alone has secured his place in rock & roll history, and everyone showed that was not something we would soon forget, as the world entered deep mourning on October 27th when his death was made known to the globe.
