Top 5 Obscure Metallica Tracks

3. The Struggle Within

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFdN3syFxeY The closing track of 1991's seminal self- titled album, The Struggle Within is another largely forgotten track in Metallica's vast catalogue. The song takes a minute or so to get into full swing, with a military style marching intro leading into so some great stripped down metal riffage and impressive rhythm work by Lars Ulrich. The chorus of the song is a memorable melody and the riffs pierce through the speakers. But undoubtedly the shining moment of this track is Kirk Hammett's lead guitar work on his solo (starting at 2:18 in the video above), truly one of his best moments on record that never gets the love it should. This song is tucked away at the back end of the Black Album, in the ever present shadow of Enter Sandman, and was never played live until 2012 , so it's criminal lack of exposure has made it something of a lost gem. But it's worth the listen just for that awesome lead solo.
