Trivium - What The Dead Men Say Review: Every Song Ranked Worst To Best

3. What The Dead Men Say

Storming through What the Dead Men Say’s sonic equivalent to The Sin and the Sentence’s The Heart From Your Hate, this track is one heck of a statement of intent from the band. Placing this song as track two and as the first song with vocals on the album kicks everything into gear and through a ride that never lets up.

You set the bar high when you start the album with a song like What the Dead Men Say, after all every other song will be compared to its massiveness - it’s a tough ordeal for tracks to follow. Fortunately for Trivium, they manage to up it as the record goes on, but that’s no slight on this song. What the Dead Men Say features one of the year's best choruses and they blend this with Heafy’s best demonstration of theatrics on the album. Metal is always best when it manages to be over the top but not silly, and Trivium nail it here.
