U2: 10 Best Album Tracks
8. Raised By Wolves
When U2 released their last album as a free download on iTunes, the backlash that they received around the world was hardly surprising.
U2 have never been the most universally liked band in the world, but what that backlash did was paint all the songs on Songs of Innocence in the same light, meaning people weren’t willing to give many of the songs on the record a chance.
This was unfair to the album, and to a song like Raised by Wolves in particular.
Raised by Wolves is about three car bombs that occurred in Dublin on a Friday evening in May 1974, during the height of The Troubles that killed 33 people.
Any other Friday, Bono would have been just down the corner at a record shop, but decided to cycle to school that day and not go into Dublin City that Friday evening. One of Bono’s friends was on the street in the immediate aftermath of the bombings, and the things that he witnessed affected him for many years after.
