U2: 10 Best Album Tracks

5. Kite

One of the most emotional songs U2 have ever recorded came out of a kite flying experience Bono had with his daughters.

The outing quickly went awry and when the kite crashed, one of the girls asked to go home to play a video game. The incident brought Bono back to his own childhood when his father had the same misfortune with a kite, even if he did not know it at first.

Bono asked the Edge to help him with the lyrics and it was Edge who felt that Bono was writing about his emotionally reserved father Bob, who was dying of cancer at the time. Bono who had been struggling with his voice during recording due to allergies, his voice finally returned when he sang the “I'm a man, I'm not a child” lyric, the most emotional part of the song.

Still takes great pride in the fact that he stopped the London Eye for 15 minutes that one time.
