Valentine's Day: 20 Greatest Love Songs Of All Time

16. "Lovin€™ You" - Minnie Riperton

http://youtu.be/kE0pwJ5PMDg I guess it makes sense; there€™s a newborn in the house and mom and dad want a little alone time. Daddy€™s a songwriter. Mommy has a seven octave range. So they turn a lullaby for their baby (Bridesmaids and SNL alum, Maya Rudolph) into a Billboard chart-topper and one of the greatest love songs. I think part of its longevity is in the simplicity of the lyrics. Loving you is easy €˜cuz you€™re beautiful/Making love with you, is all I wanna do. Iambic pentameter, it is not. Riperton€™s voice, clear and sweet, takes the main stage, and besides the two lines that reference getting down (€œeverytime that we ooohhh€) the song could be a love song to a child, just as easily. In fact, check out the unedited version of the song and you€™ll hear her singing €œMaya€ in the background. Bonus: Riperton uses the whistle range in the song. The birds you hear in the song, that€™s Riperton singing with the birds at the UCLA botanical gardens.
