Weezer: 10 Worst Songs You Need To Forget
8. Any Friend Of Diane’s
A divisive album for being their most mellow, Pacific Daydream released to little fanfare as the Weezer’s last release before their 2018 success with Africa. It features the twilight years of Weezer’s beach themed era that started with the return-to-form White Album, twinged with electropop influence.
Any Friend of Diane’s tells a story of all the women that helped frontman Rivers Cuomo early in his musical career. Scattered with pop culture references to The Smiths and Cheers along the way to paint a picture of Cuomo’s pre-fame working at Domino’s between gigs.
Any Friend of Diane’s is no worse than the tracks that preceded it. However it is the fact that it holds the only guitar solo on the album, in what sounds like Brian Bell on a ukulele. This limp crescendo represents a shadow of what the band once was. Thankfully, Weezer’s first single for their 2020 release Van Weezer shows a return for guitar solos in The End of the Game.
