Where Are They Now? - The Headliners Of Download 2003
10. Special Attraction #2: Flint
Perhaps something of an oddity on face value, FLINT were also making their UK live debut. They had only a single track released to the public and yet were still third from top on Sunday's main stage, with this being their second show ever as a group. This was because while FLINT as a whole were unfamiliar to the Download audience, its members perhaps weren't.
FLINT was a punk rock supergroup comprising of ex-Pitchshifter guitarist Jim Davies, ex-Realtv drummer Kieron Pepper, one-time The Prodigy collaborator Tony Howlett and Prodigy lead vocalist Keith Flint. With Liam Howlett taking the new Prodigy album 'Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned' into a near-solo direction, Flint furthered his punk rock side in this self-titled side project with current and former Prodigy collaborators, including live bassist (and live Gary Numan guitarist) Rob Halliday as well.
Best described as "short but sweet", following their appearance at Download, the group continued work on what would be their debut album 'Device #1', with a release date projected for 28th July 2003. However, due to the poor sales of the single "Aim4", the band broke their contract with Polydor, cancelled their remaining shows and the release of the album, before disbanding.
Keith Flint sadly passed away in March 2019.
