In the space of just a few years, the annual John Lewis Christmas advert has become something of an institution in the UK. This year's effort, featuring the bear and the hare and a cover of Keane's Somewhere Only We Know has helped Lily Allen make a comeback, whilst 2010's iteration helped to kick-start the career of Ellie Goulding. Last year, the advert was scored by a beautiful rendition of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'The Power Of Love' by Somerset singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin, which went to straight to #1 in the UK and featured on her debut album, 'English Rain', which went to #2 in May. Aplin's UK-headline tour and other releases have also done reasonably well; with English Rain yielding a further two top 20 singles, 'Panic Cord' and 'Please Don't Say You Love Me'. Given the strong taste for female singer-songwriters that the public has at the moment, it's hard to see her not achieving more in the not too distant future. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNpeK7sDLzE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IEMnWhT_7c
