10 Best Terry Pratchett Books
4. Hogfather
Another television film adaptation of Pratchett's work came in 2006, when the Hogfather hit TV screens across the UK. Released to mark the tenth anniversary of the books release, this TV adaptation was well received by fans.
As a book, Hogfather it was originally published in 1996 and included the ominous, dark and surprisingly charismatic Death as a main character. When the Hogfather (the Discworld equivalent of Father Christmas) is assassinated, Death himself is forced to take on his duties and convince the children of the Discworld that nothing is wrong. Death's mission to maintain ignorance towards the Hogfather's demise however, is complicated by the assassin, Mr. Teatime, and his attempts to fulfil his own plots.
The humorous sub-plots, satirical execution and distinct delivery are what make Hogfather such a memorable, enjoyable novel. The contrast between the joyous stereotypes of a Father Christmas like character and Death himself makes for entertaining, light-hearted reading at times, which confirms Pratchett's title as the king of comic fantasy.
