Sherman Chester was a Florida high school student with a bright future ahead of him. Chester was the star of the football team and excelled at the sport. In community college in Minnesota he continued to prove an excellent football player but his sporting career was put on hold after his mother in Florida was diagnosed with cancer. Chester dropped out of college to return home to care for his ailing mother who, despite her holding down two jobs, was unable to support her treatment financially. It was at this point that Chester made the decision to start selling small quantities of cocaine to support himself and his mother. Chester had used cocaine occasionally as a young adult so when a friend approached him with the opportunity to sell some in a time of financial need, Chester decided to do what he had to do in order to take care of his mother. Eventually Sherman became more and more heavily involved in the drug business, now dealing small quanities of cocaine and heroin, and an undercover bust eventually hauled him to court in 1992. Due to two previous drug convictions the drug was forced to hand Sherman life in prison a verdict which even the judge himself disagreed with saying This man doesnt deserve a life sentence, and there is no way that I can legally keep from giving it to him.
