There is no such thing as ‘random’ at Walt Disney World. Everything is included for a reason, no matter how big or small and everything has a meaning.

While most people look at Main Street, USA and appreciated the authenticity of Walt’s little slice of his hometown in Missouri, many of the rich detail is overlooked. If you can look past the trams, the barbershop quartets and the droves and droves of Disney enthusiasts, take a peek at the second story of the shops.

Nothing seems out of the ordinary, with the fictional company decals and proprietors names elegantly painted onto the glass panes windows. Each and every one of these panes has a meaning and it so much more than for simply meets the eye.

These ‘fictional’ names are actually real, and included to honour the people who helped bring Walt’s vision to fruition. There are three levels of criteria to hit before you get inducted into the ‘Main Street hall of fame’. Firstly, to be honoured, the cast member must have retired. Anyone currently working under the Disney banner cannot be immortalised just yet. Secondly, the honour only goes to those involved at the top level, with the highest level of service and input. The final stage of the process is more of a housekeeping exercise with the Walt Disney World management negotiating with the imagineer team as to where and what they should be honoured as.

Next time you are taking a walk down Main Street, take note of some of the names and do a little research into them when you’re winding down at one of the delicious food courts.
