10 Hilarious Lies North Korea Told The World

1. Every Movie By Shin Sang-Ok Was Not Coerced

Now for an actual 1984, Big Brother style indoctrination.

It wasn't enough to kidnap a South Korean film maker and his wife. It wasn't enough to imprison them both, 'threaten' torture and extort the film making skills of said kidnappee. No, Shin Sang-ok had to be re-educated, rehabilitated and whatever other re-stuff was necessary that he eventually came to worship Kim jong-il like the rest of the country. Then, and only then, was he allowed to make the films that Kim jong-il forced him to.

Shin Sang-ok went on to direct 7 films with his new executive producer/Supreme Commander, the best of which was a copyright infringing number called Pulgasari, or Godzilla if you are familiar with foreign film. Shin Sang-ok and his wife eventually escaped while at a film festival in Vienna, where they sought asylum in America.

Kim Jong-il and the KCNA claimed, ironically, that the pair had been kidnapped by the Americans.
