10 Horrifying Ghost Stories That Happened In Newcastle-Upon-Tyne
7. The Ghost Of Tyne Tees Television
The Television Centre, also known as City Road in conjunction with the street it was built on, served as the Tyne Tees Television HQ for over 46 years from 1959 up until the final programme was broadcast from the building on 1 July 2005. But not everyone abandoned the premises after TTTV moved out as the old building was said to have been inhabited by a ghost called Peter from days when the studios were used as warehouses of varying descriptions, possibly as a meat store or a butchers at one time. That would explain the story of Peter, who apparently took his own life by hanging himself from a meat hook and remained in the building as a spirit during its transformation into the Tyne Tees base. There are even claims that Peter swings in to spook people still hanging from the hook that he used to commit suicide in the scene dock area, which is towards the back of the building. People have since remarked that certain parts of the building retain a distinctly spectral feeling, as though there is an unseen and undetectable presence watching them in the room.
