10 Horrifying Ghost Stories That Happened In Newcastle-Upon-Tyne
4. Never Unsettle The Bones Of A Vengeful Witch
If you're unfamiliar with Family Guy episode "Petergeist", then pay close attention because it could save your life. In the case of one Newcastle-based labourer fiction became reality after he disturbed the bones of 17th century witch at St Andrew's Church on Newgate Street in 2008, where the burial register states there were 16 witches and one wizard buried on the grounds after being hanged on the Town Moor in 1650 for their association with the devil. It was during an excavation at St Andrew's that the overly curious labourer unearthed the human remains as he aided colleagues in the digging of a ditch as part of work to light the churchyard and absent-mindedly decided to pick up part of a skull, said to be that of a witch whose body was thrown into the pit, and gleefully parade it to his colleagues. To his horror, the labourer soon began to notice scabs and sores erupting on his arm after handling the skull, with even baffled doctors unable to conclusively answer what triggered the outbreak. Needless to say, it doesn't require modern medicine to solve such a simple mystery; the bones were clearly hexed by the vindictive witch and the unfortunate labourer bore the brunt of a centuries old curse.
