10 Infamous Occultists With Terrifyingly Creepy Obsessions

5. Aleister Crowley - The Demon Of Abre Melin

No other physical proof for the Devil's existence has manifested itself in recent history than the life's work of the most infamous, black-hearted magician of them all, Aleister Crowley. Born 1875 and died 1947, Crowley's outspoken views and actions with ritual magick shocked society deeply throughout the world war eras. Adolf Hitler, a fellow Occultist, once said to a group of dinner guests that Crowley was the only Englishman he ever liked. Taking inspiration from Egyptian deities, Crowley began his own religion of Thelema. Practicing his personal philosophy, "Do what thou wilt be the whole of the law," (one of the most widely misused mantras of all time by his imitators). Never mind the English magician bent his will on summoning what he described as his guardian angel or in his case guardian demon. On the shores of Loch Ness, in a house described as being touched by pure evil, Crowley secluded himself to perform a summoning ritual that would last six months. The deity he hoped to call was a demon he read about while researching the works of the elusive sorcerer Abre Melin. Unfortunately, Crowley left the ritual unfinished and abandoned the house to help his own Occult lodge, which was falling apart at the time from inner strife. The house was never cleansed of the presence he awakened and many believe haunted him the rest of his life up to his painful death.
