10 Inventors Killed By Their Own Creations

6. Valerian Abakovsky

62Invention: The Aerowagon Country: Latvia Died: 1921 Valerian Abakovsky was the inventor behind the short-lived Aerowagon. Originally created with the intention of carrying Soviet officials, the Aerowagon was designed to travel along rails at high speeds, thanks to an aircraft engine and propeller. The Aerowagon initially seemed to be a brilliant mode of transport, after Abakovsky and 21 others rode the vehicle from Moscow to Tula. The small carriage was able to travel at unbelievable fast speeds considering its small form, making it excellent for discretely transporting high-priority individuals. Despite a promising start, the Aerowagon ended up derailing on the return journey. The ensuing crash killed 6 of the 22 people on board, including Abakovsky himself.
