10 Most Scarily Advanced Robots In The World

4. Swarm Robots

When people imagine the future of robotics, they probably picture something with two arms, two legs and a face, but experts the world over are beginning to look into the potential of swarm robotics.

Non-scalable robots, whilst they look fancy, do have certain limitations. Swarm systems consist of lots of much smaller robots working together in much the same way a colony of ants or a shoal of fish does.

There are a couple of advantages to a system like this. The robots all communicate with one another and are able to work together without and external intelligence, but they are also less vulnerable to system failure. If the power supply on one bot fails, the swarm is able to absorb this and adapt to it.

We can make swarms that can crawl, fly and even swim, and they are incredibly adaptable, scaling to the task that is required of them.

We may one day be sending swarms out to explore alien planets as they can simultaneously collect data from a wider area and wouldn't scupper the whole mission should one of them fail. We could use them in the military, or you could even one day have a little swarm of roving cleaner-bots for your home.
