Charles Bravo was a barrister from a respected family who lived at The Priory in Balham, London. Bravo died in 1876 from antimony poisoning which pointed directly to murder. This mystery caused a stir in well-to-do Victorian London as nearly all members of the Bravo household were considered suspects from his housekeeper to his wife, Florence.

The murder was considered so scandalous that women and children were banned from attending the inquest into what happened. Bravo was reported to have been been a controlling and violent bully towards Florence and one theory is that she poisoned him because of this. Another theory exists that Bravo was actually planning to murder his wife for unknown reasons and purchased the antimony himself. This version of events ends with Bravo accidentally causing his own death by consuming the poison after mistaking it for toothache medicine.
