The first and probably most well known Playboy centrefold, Monroe appeared in the premiere issue in 1953. She was called their first "Sweetheart Of The Month" (the term Playmate came later) and her cover shot was credited with launching the magazine. She only became more famous after that, emerging as one of the world's most recognisable movie stars and appearing alongside actors like Tony Curtis and Lauren Bacall. She continues to be a pop culture icon and muse, decades after her untimely death.
