10 Problems Only People From Sydney Will Understand
9. It’s A Cyclist’s Nightmare
There are many places around the world that are less than ideal for cyclists than Sydney. However, as far as first world cities goes, Sydney isn't exactly the most hospitable place for those who favour a bike over a car or public transport.
The main problem is the nature of Sydney's streets and the lack of required infrastructure to cater to cyclists. Outside of large main streets such as George Street, Elizabeth Street, or Anzac Parade, most streets are narrow, winding, and are full of hills. This means that there is only a very small amount of space for cars, buses, and cyclists to share. Excessive horn honking, creative insults, and far too many near-death experiences are what cyclists can expect in Sydney.
Sydney may not be the most ideal place to ride a bicycle but it's probably still a better option than some of the other alternatives out there...
