10 Problems Only People From Sydney Will Understand

8. Watching Life Pass You By Whilst Stuck On Parramatta Road

Paramatta Road Sydney
Wikipedia

Parramatta Road is like Sydney's highway equivalent of the Nile River: it's a major road that goes down the heart of the city and helps divert traffic in and out of numerous major highways. Except for the fact that the Nile is lovely and Parramatta Road is the complete opposite of lovely.

That's about as nice of a comparison to the River Nile as you'll get about Parramatta Road.

With stop-start traffic, speeds slowing to a crawl, and air quality as fresh as China's, being trapped in a car on Sydney's ugliest and busiest road will make you question the meaning of existence as you watch life pass by before your eyes. The existential crisis gets worse the further down Parramatta Road you go as the cluster of normal looking stores in the CBD gradually descend into a series of rundown abandoned buildings and second-hand car stores.

Of course, you could just ditch the cars in favour for a far more healthy and convenient bicycle but that may not be the best idea either...

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
