10 Smartest Human Beings Of All Time
2. Aristotle
Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle are the golden trio of philosophy – in many ways, all three of them deserve to be on this list. Yet the latter’s ideas are definitely the most varied and influential.
Though Aristotle was a member of Plato’s Academy, he was much more pragmatic than his old mentor. Biology, political science, mathematics, psychology, and the secret to happiness were all discussed by this legendary Greek philosopher. And whilst some of his ideas haven’t stood the test of time, there’s much we can learn from Aristotle.
Indeed, his advice on how to live a good life hasn’t aged a day. As well as addressing the power of virtue, Aristotle also discussed – amongst other things – long-lasting friendships, methods of persuasion, the value of moderation, and the importance of living an active life.
For those who are new to Aristotle, the breadth of his knowledge can be intimidating. But if you want to obtain some timeless wisdom about self-improvement, happiness, and purpose, the Nicomachean Ethics is a good place to start.
