4. Unlimited Energy For Everyone

Back in 2006, a company called Steorn Ltd announced online that it had managed to create a source of free, unlimited energy. They claimed that they had managed this through the use of €œtime variant magnetic interactions.€ Naturally, just about everyone with the remotest idea of scientific theory answered the announcement with scepticism. The company€™s reputation was at stake with this bold claim though, so it was to faint curiosity that the company said that they would make a press demonstration of their technology. The demonstration was a total disaster, and the machine just didn€™t work. Steorn has since made further claims, even bringing in a jury of scientists to test it out (they unanimously said it didn€™t work). The whole fiasco has since been referred to as an elaborate hoax, although no one seems to know why the registered company would bother.
