10 Most Terrifying Places In England

7. The Langham Hotel, London

Built in 1865, The Langham Hotel was considered London's first 'grand' hotel, featuring nearly 500 rooms, a glorious banquet hall and sumptuous dining rooms; it's collected a fair share of paranormal residents over the years. The hotel is considered the most haunted place in the capital, with more sightings and incidents than any other site around the Thames. The paranormal activity reached it's peak when the hotel was owned by the BBC and one newscaster had potentially the most vivid encounter recorded in modern memory. Staying in room 333 (a room since determined as the most haunted in the whole hotel), the BBC man woke up to see a ball of light hanging over his bed, which shifted to take the form of a human (with no legs) in ornate victorian clothing. As he tried to communicate with the apparition, it reached it's arms out and started to move towards him, leading him to - understandably - run from the room in a panic and get some help. When another BBC staffer came to the room, the spirit was still there, but it's brightness had dulled and it had began to fade away. Such occurrences when two people see the same spirit are rare enough in this world adding weight to the belief that The Langham is the most haunted place in London, and possibly one of the most haunted in the UK at all. Over the years, other guests have witnessed other sightings and the hotel is believed to have at least five separate spirits all manifesting themselves in different ways. Needless to say - if it's a comforting break you're after, avoid this place like the plague. Acorah says: GET OUT! GET OUT! OUT NOW! AWAY FROM HERE! I'M TRYING TO TAKE A BATH!
