It's a fact that old museums can be creepy and old hospitals can also be absolutely, pant-wettingly unnerving to be anywhere near. But what about old museums that started their life as an older hospital and also play host to a collection of spirits intent on causing merry mayhem? It's inconceivable for most, but Peterborough Museum is exactly that, a former stately home that became a hospital, that burned to the ground and was subsequently resurrected as a museum and is haunted by at least 10 separate entities. It's amazing anyone makes it out of there alive. The cellars of the museum date back to the late 16th century and have been built upon many times. It is down below the ground floor that most of the paranormal activity has been encountered. Reports of spirits have been many and varied, the most common being a ghost who many believe to be of a man called Thomas Hunter, a soldier who died in the hospital of injuries sustained in the first World War. His particular hauntings involve a ghostly figure floating up the main staircase of the building, the sound of loud footsteps and his image around the first floor of the building. Other supernatural encounters in the museum have included the sight of a little girl running around, a maid who fell to her death appearing on the back stairs of the building and the ghost of a Roman soldier appearing in the archaeology department. Visitors have also noted the ever present feelings of being watched, the sound of children's laughter and a voice calling out "Lady Charlotte! Lady Charlotte" (one of the owners of the stately home). Acorah says: I'm pretty sure we have enough footage from the outside, don't we?
