As depicted in Man of Steel, young Clark Kent had a difficult upbringing. He was different to everyone else in his class at school - mainly because he was an alien - and this is shown through the scene in which he discovers he can see his teacher's internal organs. Whilst x-ray vision is glamorised, mostly by men who want to see naked ladies, it's almost certainly extremely disturbing when you're learning how to filter through what's clothing and what's skin. To begin with, it's like having a front row seat at an operating table, and not being able to turn away, because everyone looks like that; it might be occasionally useful to see the innards of your friends, but it's one of more gruesome burdens of Superman's fantastic range of gifts. It's no wonder Clark ran away to hide in a cupboard. Even when the whole class though, waiting outside for him to reappear, he could still see their insides, as he could see through doors. Once you'd learned to control this one, you'd barely use it again, would you?
