This little routine will vary from father to father but the gist of it is when your baby is so exhausted that even comfort from his mother is not helping him off to the Land of Nod. That’s when the ‘dad dance’ comes into play. It involves snuggling your knackered child into your chest and performing a multitude of elaborate interpretive dance moves in order to rock your offspring to sleep.

Normal rocking won’t work. It must include some form of light pirouette, perhaps a lunge or squat, dancing on the spot without moving your legs, jiving left and right and a medley of snippets from classic dances such as the waltz. As well as the robot.

On some nights your baby will just refuse to sleep without partaking in a scene from Footloose.

Chris James Peet says hello. His interests include hoping for the best and sitting in chairs. He much prefers moaning to counting his blessings and suffers fools gladly. He also likes to look out of the window and check what's in the fridge but he hates standing up, dripping taps and reality.
