10 Things We Learned From Infectious Disease Expert Michael Osterholm On Joe Rogan Experience
3. What Are The Ways To Combat Flu?
In short, just stay as healthy as possible.
Osterholm recommended trying to stay in shape, having a healthy diet, drinking plenty of water and reducing your alcohol intake. This will all help build your immune system up and give you a fighting chance of beating any infection.
However, if you do get the flu and start to experience serious muscle pains or increasingly severe symptoms then you should get to a doctor or GP as soon as possible. Flu can open the door to things like pneumonia which can be potentially fatal, so it would be wise to try and stamp out the virus ASAP.
Rogan asked what was more effective in terms of flu vaccinations, injections or mist?
To which Osterholm replied that mist has proven more effective on kids and jabs appear to work better on adults, with higher dose vaccinations being advised for older people.
One positive that has come from this pandemic is the fact that people have now become more aware of what they can do to fight off Influenza or other airborne viruses. The overarching message that Osterholm sent out throughout this interview is make sure you are doing everything possible to ensure you're in tip top condition, so if you are eventually infected you'll stand the best chance of kicking Coronavirus into touch.
