10 Things You Didn't Know About Disney's The Haunted Mansion
8. Hearing Voices
Throughout the ride you're introduced to a number of ghastly and ghoulish characters who'll talk to you and help you on your journey through the underworld, but there may be something familiar about them you can't quite put your finger on. That's because a number of them have done some pretty well-known voice-work outside of the Haunted Mansion. For example, the man behind the Ghost Host is Paul Frees, known as the Man of a Thousand Voices. He is best known for providing the voice of Boris Badenov in The Rocky and Bullwinkle show, but has also voiced a number of Disney characters such as Professor Ludwig von Drake, and the 'Dead Men Tell No Tales' speech on Pirates of the Caribbean. Another familiar voice you'll hear is that of Eleanor Audley, who lends her vocal talents to Madame Leota, the face inside the crystal ball (which is actually the face of Disney Imagineer Leota Toombs (yes, her actual name)). Audley is a heavyweight when it comes to Disney villains, having voiced the wicked stepmother Lady Tremaine in Cinderella, and the Mistress of All Evil, Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
