10 Things You Didn't Know About Scooby Doo

6. Scooby Doo's Actors Were Culled From Horror Films

The casting for Raja Gosnell's live-action Scooby Doo (2002) gave horror fans a few chuckles: Freddie Prinze Jr (Fred) was in I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) with his wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar (Daphne), while Linda Cardellini (Velma) had previously appeared in Strangeland (1998).

Most appropriate, though, was the casting of Matthew Lillard (Shaggy), who'd previously played a masked villain in Scream (1996), a franchise in which Gellar also appeared. In fact, an actor from every Scream film has either appeared in the live-action movies or voiced a cartoon character on the show.

David Warner, Lewis Arquette (both Scream 2) and Hayden Panattiere (Scream 4) all lent their respective vocal talents to What’s New Scooby Doo?, A Pup Named Scooby Doo and Scooby Doo And The Goblin King. Most interesting, though, is Scream 3’s casting of Patrick Warburton, who plays Sheriff Bronson Stone in Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated. His Scream 3 character is named Steven Stone, proving beyond doubt that Scooby is the father of modern horror.
