10 Things You Should Know About Splash Mountain

1. Br'er Rabbit And The Honey

If you have experienced the attraction but aren't familiar with the Uncle Remus stories, you might not realise that part of the story has been changed.

On Splash Mountain, Br'er Rabbit is trapped in sticky honey by Br'er Bear and Br'er Fox. The traditional story has a very different and much more controversial ending

In the original telling Br'er Fox traps Br'er Rabbit using the tar baby, a doll constructed from tar and turpentine and dressed in clothing. Br'er Rabbit believes that it is a real child and becomes stuck to it when he attempts to hit the doll after thinking that it is rude for not responding to him.

The concerns over racism in the Tar Baby story, which incidentally was used in the Song of the South movie, meant Disney decided not to recreate this part in Splash Mountain.

The honey scene works well and if you didn't know of tar baby, you wouldn't even question that the tale could be anything different.
