However, this is one the English might well get wrong too since it's a Welsh place name. Caerphilly has a silent "e", making the pronunciation "Car-philly". Since the word is used in the name of the famous Caerphilly cheese, there must be plenty of people on both sides of the Atlantic saying this one wrong on a semi-regular basis. In Old Welsh, "caer" means castle. Unsurprisingly, there's a massive castle in Caerphilly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F8Px-rq8FY
