Whilst we often marvel at how inventive a race we are, it's almost impossible to get away from the notion that the last 50 years has seen an improbable amount of "breakthrough" tech. Seemingly out of nowhere, new devices and products are being created every single year that change how we live our lives.

The microwave, the barcode, WI-FI, CDs, lasers, kevlar, even blu-tac, if it's revolutionised modern living then there's a theory about it coming to us from another world. Following reports of captured alien craft in the 1950s, scientists have allegedly spent the following 60 years reverse manufacturing every piece of kit that they could get their hands on.

Releasing the more marketable ones to American businesses to stimulate the economy, and gradually pushing us toward a level of technological parity with our alien neighbours.
