10 Weird Things You Didn't Know Could Make You Smarter

7. Chewing Gum

Yet another activity that many people were berated for doing at school (or even at work), but which is actually an effective booster of mental performance. There have been several studies on why gum has this effect; turns out it€™s due to the rather pornographic sounding €˜mastication-induced arousal€™. Basically this means that chewing actually wakes our brains up and focuses them on the task at hand. If it€™s all down to the chewing process rather that the gum itself, surely that means any kind of mastication will temporarily make you smarter? So next time you€™re in a test, stuck on a hard question and have no gum at hand, take a sneaky bite out your table and have a chew on it. Anyone who notices this will undoubtedly identify you as the potential genius you are.
