11 Breathtakingly Beautiful Places That Will Kill You Horribly

6. The Bolton Strid - Yorkshire

This Lord of the Rings-worthy scenery looks picturesque, but it hides a deadly secret.

The narrow section of river, known as the Bolton Strid, is one of the deadliest stretches of water in the British Isles. This is because it has gone from a 40-foot wide raging river just upstream, to this narrow five-foot waterway.

How does it do this? It goes down. Very deep.

The fast flowing water has eroded down through the rock; the current is so strong and the river so deep at this point that no one actually knows how far down it goes.

Although you could probably leap over the Strid, it isn't recommended, as one wrong move would send you to an almost certain death. It is thought that not a single person to have fallen in the river at this point has survived and, in many cases, the bodies have never been recovered.

Cause of death: Pulled down to oblivion.
