11 Breathtakingly Beautiful Places That Will Kill You Horribly
5. Snake Island - Brazil
Ilha de Queimada Grande, or Snake Island, pretty much does exactly what it says on the tin.
On the plus side, this island is a stunning untouched wilderness, completely devoid of human presence.
On the down side, this is because the island has one of the highest densities of venemous snakes in the world. It is the only place in the world that you will find the golden lancehead pit viper (Bothrops insularis), which is probably a good thing. The viper's venom contains a neurotoxin that will paralyse its prey, as well as an ingredient that will eat through flesh.
There are so many snakes on this island that it is thought there could be at least one viper for every square metre of land. Due to their numbers and toxicity, the Brazilian government closed the island to the public, allowing the snakes to flourish alone.
Cause of death: Snake bite.
