11 Crazy Festivals You Won't Believe Actually Exist

9. The Cheese Rolling Festival - England

This home grown annual oddity used to be partaken in solely by the residents of Brockworth village, however nowadays people from all over the world travel to south west England to chase a 9lb roll of Double Gloucester down a hill. The origins of the Cooper€™s Hill Cheese Rolling and Wake date back to a time when this kind of activity was considered a sensible way of bidding for grazing rights on the common, eventually growing into a free-to-enter competition for thrill seekers. Far from a stroll in the park, the race rarely ends without injury €“ 11 people were injured in the fabled run of 1993, four of them seriously. The local council did attempt to bring some kind of organisation to the event, suggesting that security and perimeter fences be provided along with a charge for entering a proposed spectator€™s area. This resulted in councillors receiving death threats. What can you say, the people of Brockworth like their cheese run just fine the way it is, unorganised and incredibly dangerous.
