11 Crazy Festivals You Won't Believe Actually Exist

8. The Monkey Buffet Festival - Thailand

If you€™ve ever taken a stroll down to your local park to feed the ducks, this is kind of like that, only one hundred times the scale and one hundred times as strange. The Monkey Buffet Festival takes place annually in the provence of Lopburi, north of Thailand€™s capital of Bangkok, and sees 4000 kilograms of fruit, vegetables and even baked goods laid out for the local monkey population of around 3000. This feast is put on outside temples erected during the height of neighbouring Cambodia€™s Khmer dynasty, dating back as far as the 10th century, so if you€™re a history buff as well as an animal lover, mark this day in your calendar. Like many festivals in this part of the world, it was conceived as something that might boost tourism in a previously less-travelled part of this beautiful country, though, like many gatherings in this part of the world, there is a chance you€™ll be pick-pocketed and harassed €“ and that€™s just the monkeys!
