12 Most Controversial Joe Rogan Experience Guests

3. Roseanne Barr

Comedian and actor, Roseanne Barr was a staple of mainstream American television with her family comedy show, Roseanne. Set in a fictional, working-class version of her reality, including her husband being played by the loveable John Goodman, the show ran from 1988 to 1997 with a short revival in 2018.

The revival of the ABC show was short-lived due to comments made by the leading actor regarding former Senior Advisor to Barak Obama, Valerie Jarrett. The tweet, which read ‘muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj’ refers to Jarrett’s heritage of being an Iranian born African-American. Immediately, showrunners of the revived Roseanne and executives of ABC disparaged Barr’s tweet and announced she would no longer be involved in the programme shortly thereafter.

During the Valerie Jarrett incident, Rogan supported Barr, saying that she was an incredibly intelligent person with a strong desire to be outspoken and it was a common aspect of her stage persona. He didn’t condone what she said, however, and said it would be best for someone like her to avoid twitter at all costs.

Finally appearing on the Experience six months after being removed from ABC television, Rogan and Roseanne discussed her health issues, as well as discussing her head trauma she had suffered as a child. She admitted to being on strong pain medication at the time of tweeting and not being in the right state of mind to know exactly the impact of such a statement.
